Have a 1966 skylark. The car has not run for 20 years. The power steering does not work now.Can someone head me in the right direction? Where to start? If pumps bad should i rebuild it or buy a rebuilt one? This is an area i have no clue of what to do so don't beat me up to bad!!
Thanks for any help i need it!

I assume you got the engine running. Does it turn but it takes a lot of effort? Is there fluid in the pump? Does it make any noise when you are trying to turn? The pumps rarely go bad, but if you want another one, ask on here. Used should be OK. Post pictures from above the fender looking down, front and back.

I have a 455 in the car now. I did have someone else do it.Power steering never worked when i got it back (I got screwed, i think on the job $$$$).
No noise when running when trying to turn. It was hard as hell to turn .Fluid was low in the pump so i filled it and drove it and fluid was everywhere. I did take the pump and hoses off and the power steering fluid is an orange color like rusty water . I'm going to drain all of it out and put new back in. I'll see what happens! I will get some pics!!!
    Thanks for the info!!!!

If fluid was every where you need to rebuild or replace. They are not hard to rebuild and kits are available.
