does anyone here running a 455 in a 75-79 skylark happen to know the part number they are using for a power steering pump/reservoir? I don't see any numbers stamped on my pump, and cant just walk into a store and ask for this.

Are you talking a stock pump for which year? To the engine or the car?

I'm using the stock power steering pump that came with the car.

Autozone part number 6044 for $42 for the reservoir and pump. 6253 for just the pump.

I found that getting the right hose would of been the headache using a mid to early 70's power steering pump and matching the threads on the reservoir and steering box. I did put a V8 hose on it for a slightly shorter hose.

Did either of you have issues with the pulley not lining up with the crank/water pump? I have the stock pump from the car bolted to the engine and the pulley is about 1 inch forward compared to the crank and water pump pulleys. I am thinking of swapping the pulley from the 455 pump onto the car pump.

I think for this conversation, it is very important to state what brackets are you using. Which year brackets, what engine and if possible what car they came from. 231, 350, and 400/400/455 all bolt up. If pieces are getting mixed and matched its very possible for things to go awry or recommend a wrong part number.

My alternator bracket requires a pair of washers to shim it out a bit to line of perfectly with the crank('72) and water pump ('72 short nose) pulleys, but required no shimming at all for the power steering side. The brackets I am using are stock off a '77 Buick Skylark 231 V6.

    Pictures help! :)
