    Hey All,
I need to know if the power steering pump would be the same for all 70-72 buick 350's and 455's.
If there is a difference in any year i really need to know.
    Thanks,Jeff

Jeff-going by recollection(dangerous at my age) I believe the pump per se is the same. There may be some variation in the cannister portion although I doubt it.The '69 cannister at least is different.I rebuilt my pump a year or two ago using the high performance unit from AGR(on a '71 GS) and they had just a generic listing for all GM A-bodies for '70 to '72.It fits and works fine.My car is a big block but the cannister and pump I used as a core was from a small block(including pulley).I know this is not exactly definitive but the best I can do from memory.Best of luck.Rod

I recently went to a salvage yard and got one from a mid to late 70's Buick to put on my car. Not sure if you're going concours or just need a new pump. All I know is what the owner told me, so I'm no authority.

The owner of the salvage yard said they are all the same for a large range of years (forget what it is) as far as interchangability is concerned.

The pump bodies seem to have the same shape and mounting points. However, where the hoses connect appears to be different depending on year. This doesn't seem to be much of a difference for hose length so much as for clearance when the later cars had the pump mounted closer to the block.

If I remember correctly all 70-72 Pumps are the same. The brackets however are different. The 350 brackets are different from the GS 455 brackets, and 455 big car brackets are different again. I think the GS 455 cars needed to move the power steering pump away from the charcoal canister. Makes for a mess trying to figure brackets.

    Jeff,
I think the pumps are more or less the same, but the reservoirs have slight differences appearance wise. The biggest difference is in the brackets and pump positioning. This is most appearant when you look at a 70 as opposed to a 71-72. On a 70 455, the pump is angled towards the fender as opposed to the 71-72 where the pump is straight up and down. That is one of the things I am looking to remedy on my 70. I have a later model pump and brackets. I've have the correct parts, but need to refurbish them before I mount everything.

I always thought this was related to belt length. on my 350 70... as the belt got older it tiped more toward the fender from tightening it back up.
