Power steering or brakes in 55 Special?

    Hello,
Were power steering and/or power brakes offered on the 1955 Buick hardtop four-door Special? On mine, the steering feels as easy as power steering, but the brakes feel like plain old non-power brakes. Is there a way for a complete vintage car amateur like me to verify those two items?
    Thanks...

    Fenderfan,

    Check out this url http://www.55buick.com/special.html

There is allot of good info. I believe both PS and PB were available.

To verify PS look at your engine and steering gearbox. There will be hoses running from a belt driven pump on your engine to the gearbox if you have PS.
To verify PB take a look at your mastercylinder. If it is connected directly to your brake pedal pushrod it is manual brakes. If it is connected to a unit with a vacuum hose connected to it the it is power brakes.

Hope this helps and good luck.
