I keep seeing a small puddle of fluid under my power steering. I cant track it down... all the hoses are dry. The bottom of the pump seems to be wet.
How would the pump be leaking.
This is an area where I do not have much experience.

    Thanks in Advance!

It could be a few things. The cast pump has an o-ring that seals it to the tin housing. also the fitting on the back could be leaking at the housing. You will need to dry it off good to find where it is leaking. You could try to tighten the hose fitting at the pump....

My bet is what Nelson Mentioned the big pump O ring seal. In my experience they all leak there at some point. I fix them myself but if you are not comfortable doing it send it out.

I had the same problem last fall right before I put the car to bed for the winter. I couldn't tell if it was the big O-ring or some of the smaller seals. I bought the seal kit at Advance Auto, drain it and resealed it. No leaks since.

All I did was pop the cast body out of the tin casing, replaced that big O-ring. The old one was pretty mashed and there was a bit of sediment that I cleaned out while I was at it and repainted the tin case. It also has the seals for the pressure line fitting and the bolts that hold it together. It was easy and cheap. If you can change a spark plug, you can do this pretty easily in a few hours unless you want some powder coating.

    Thanks Guys,

Yes I bet it is the Oring, or seems like the hoses are dry when I check. Ill try and track down a rebuild kit. We dont have advanced auto here, we have Shucks? maybe thew will have it. Or is there a mail order company I can source it from.

    Appreciate all the feedback.

My steering box end cap is leaking. Pop off the retaining clip with a screwdriver? Just replace Oring?

Something about a hole to start the clip removal? Not sure how to get cap off.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

This thread was about the powering steering pump. You are looking at the steering box.

I haven't taken one apart, so I will let others chime in.
