I have a Buick 455 out of a 1976 Electra. I have all the accessories ( i.e. power steering pump & pulley ) that I believe are all factory. I have had the motor built into a 462 & installed March underdrive pulleys on Alternator, Crank & Water Pump. March did not have a pulley that matched the 4.8" diameter of the factory PS pulley. Not sure if it matters but I'm currently planning on keeping the factory 1976 A/C compressor & run dual electric fans. 1. Should I switch to a pulley, that is the same 5.82" diameter as the one listed on Auto Parts websites as factory for the Olds 307 that once resided in my 1986 Regal ? 2. If above is a "yes"...should I see what March offers that is closest to factory Olds 307 pulley, or should it remain one of the factory 1976 Buick 455 or 1986 Olds 307 sizes ?
Install the factory power steering pump! From the 455. Swap the power valves at the back. It's just a large bolt that the line screws into. They interchange I've done it myself already. That might give ya more options.
I already have the new power valve. I do not have any factory PS hoses / lines. I was thinking about getting the necessary adapters from Summit to convert them to 8AN & making nylon braid over steel braid lines from Hot Rod Fuel Hose (I have extra left over from fuel setup). I was more concerned about the pulley sizing & effecting the speed at which the pump spins.
