Did some reading and research on homemade octane boosters and here's what I mixed up. 64 ozs of xylene, 64 ozs of toluene, 30 ozs of mineral spirits for a cleansing agent, and 4 ozs of ATF for a lubricant. After mixing, I put in 1 gallon of the octane booster mix into the tank of my GS right before a fill up. About a 1:20 ratio of mix to gas so it's well within spec of 1:10 maximum. Haven't had a chance to drive the car to see how it reacts and performs. Car is giving me some slight off throttle detanation with proper timing and on 92 octane pump gas so I thought some increased octane might help. Any downsides to homemade octane booster recipes? Anyone want to list their recipes and results?
My favorite is the tol/xyl mixture, up to about 10% ratio- about 1 gal of tol and one of xyl per tank. I don't bother with the ATF or mineral spirits, since I only do it occasionally and it's not really diluted enough to harm much. I just dump in one gallon of each when it is track time. Sorry I don't have any true back-to-back results to report. -Bob Cunningham
Evans, Just adjust the preload in the vacuum cannister. The vacuum advance isn't going away quick enough as you open the throttle.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<DANGEROUS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Be careful of what you are using Evans. Toluene is a banned substance in our General Motors plant in Canada. I has been linked to cancer.
