:Smarty: was interested in buying doors from a post car 2 door and wanted to know if the post could be cut out to make them coupe doors ? does any have an answer? thanx henry j
I won't say that it "can't" be done, but it won't be done "easily"! If you remove the posts from the door, you'll also be removing the wing window and the door window, that you'll have to replace all the glass with coupe glass (one piece, longer glass for the length of the whole door)! The window regulators may or may not be different, so that might be something else you might have to get, if you don't already have some. The weatherstripping will be different, there's another thing you'd have to replace, as a Coupe. For all of your effort to CHANGE a post door into a coupe door, you may just want to FIND a coupe door, to begin with. Just a suggestion. :Smarty: :TU:
Scott, The entire piece of sheetmetal on the inside of the door is different also. Henry put 2 duplicate threads out here and I answered this on the other post. Duane Here is another difference, the location for the driverside outside mirror is also different, so you would need to fill in the holes and drill others.
:TU: I've only ever seen "2" Post cars, EVER! All of my cars have been Coupes, except for my 4 door! :bglasses: I was just giving my best "educated guess". :Smarty: :TU:
Scott, This is one of those ideas that sounds good on paper, but turns into a mess when you actually do it. I actually did the reverse of this. When I built the X-Camino I had to change a pair of coupe doors to El Camino style post doors. By the time I was done I had 20 hours in the driver's door. The passenger door only took me 6 hours because I knew where to cut. Then the body man had to fill in all the seams. Duane
I have a 2dr post car and I know the door panels are not interchangable. The 2dr coupe panel curves slightly forward at the top rear and the 2dr post curves back at the top rear. So if you put the cope panel on a post car you have an inch of sheet metal exposed at the top rear of the door. Window regulators are in different positions also. A lot more work than it's worth.
