Its a 12 bolt rear I took out of 71 skylark. originally was a 6 cylinder car but had a buick 350 stock in it, boxed lower control arms, boxed upper control arms, air bags, and grabber type traction bars,All add ons of course.Theres letters on the passenger side axcel tube L then R over an E then the numbers 0106K.On the center section passenger bottom in the web it has( GM 2 D )a (M in a box)and a(N).On very bottom it has(L208).ON the drivers side of the center section in the web it reads (3959038) its a posi, and by counting rotation I think its 3.08.I can't find anything on this its probably a 12 Bolt canadian ? Have not opened it up.Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks Steve.

If the cover has an "eyebrow" you have a 12 bolt Chevy. If you still have the car, look at the cowl tag. On the bottom will be stamped "MADE IN CANADA"

Just curious about the "eyebrow" you talked about ... my 68 Skylark Custom (Canadian built) has a 12 bolts rear end on it , anyone has a picture or explaination of this "eyebrow" ? Are they "all" Chevy's or Buick has made them too ?

Am i right to say that most Canadian A-body (Skylark and/or GS) have 12 bolts rear end and US built have 10 ?

GM only had 2 rears w/12 bolts. One is Olds which has a round, smooth cover.
Chevy has an elliptical cover with the "eyebrow"

I have both pictured on our site in a side-by-side comparison.

The "eyebrow" is an oil channel groove that guides the gear oil spun up by the ring gear back to the carrier bearings.

    posi rear what is it

Hi Donald, the canadian 12 bolts have the eyebrow and so do the chevy 12 bolt.what I found out was if you look in the Archive's and go to the Got Gears you can look up all the old Posts by doing so I found If you look at the passenger side of the axcel tube faceing the front. 3" from the center section. You will see two letters, then four numbers then another letter.I found out if you look at the letters (say for instance L J then four numbers then a letter.IF that last letter is a K it is a canadian built 12 bolt.I now have two of these 12 bolt canadian rears and it seams to hold true I hope this helps.
