dont know, my buddy took it out of a 69 wildcat years ago. had the posi rebuilt and never did anything with it, it had 2.93 gears and he threw the gears away....it very different than 10 or 12 bolt..and why im trying to ID it he wants to sell it here on buick v8, but cant remeber for sure what he took it from, he did it 30 years ago...but hes pretty sure its out of a 69 big car..but the date is 165....
Most likely a 9 3/8" Buick rear 30 spline 12 bolt ring gear . Should be a Eaton type unit with 2 preload springs and 2 plates. Does it look like this??? this unit had 3.08 on it and I know it is correct. 2.56 2.73 2.93 are probably on the same unit 3.08 3.23 3.42 are on the same unit I am not all knowledgeable in the FULL size cars YET...but am working on it. Jim
yes looks just like it...i guess on the ribbed side it says 2 great big so its a 2 series..i thought 2.93 up in everything else was a 3 series..i dont know, just trying to help him out..its an extremely nice piece though...
Like I said I am not the extreme expert on the full size rears...BUT I do know for a FACT this is the 3.08 posi unit number. So I would say yes 2.93 must be the next step down OR the ring is on the wrong carrier. ??? Maybe? Jim
The ratios as I recall are 2.56/2.78/3.07/3.23/3.42/3.91/4.45 for the 9 3/8" I also seem to remember reading a 3.56 or 3.58 in a parts book years ago, but never heard of any of those in a car. Not all of the ratios were available all years-the 2.56-2.78 showed up later
WOW are you sure about the 3.91 and 4.45??? Cause this is a full size rear. MAybe for an A-body but a FULL size buick??? That seems way high. ??? Jim
Yep, 3.91's and 4.45's were available. I believe Tom has a set of each, and I know of at least one other board member that has a set of 3.91's in their posession. And Dan your correct, 3.58's are listed in my chassis manual.
