I got to looking at the cylinder heads on the '66 in sig after cleaning the engine up and noticed a threaded port above each of the main exhaust ports/manifold. Each one has an individual plug in it. What's the story? :Do No:

A.I.R (Air Injection Reactor) An air pump injects air into the exhaust port of each cylinder so that combustion continues in the exhaust manifold. It's a pollution device. Are the heads from a California car?

    Quick reply, thanks!

Yes, the car was built in Fremont, CA but there is no smog equipment on the car. I posted in the paint section yesterday that I cleaned the engine/engine bay all day yesterday and found the drivers side cylinder head is light blue and the passenger side cylinder head has no paint on it at all. The rest of the engine is all red - or what's left of the red. I assume the heads were redone and/or replaced at some point and the car has been in California it's whole life until I picked it up a couple of months ago.

Did they have/use the A.I.R. heads in 1966?

That was the first year. I had a 66 Wildcat with an intact AIR system. It was pretty cool to see it on a car that early.

Wow, I didn't know they had A.I.R. that early. That means the car also had a catalytic converter then, right?

No, 1975 was the first year for the catalytic converter.
