Popping from aftermarket radio

    My car (70 skylark) came with an aftermarket radio connected to an amp that's on the floor in the back seat. When you turn on the radio all I get is a loud pop-pop-pop thru the speakers, nothing else. Anyone know what might be the cause?

    Short in preamps or preampwires.

    So, if I disconnect the amp and just use the radio the noise should go away?
