Two problem here: So i ordered the new single wire alternator from eastwood. It whistles like crazy. its the one in chrome (10SI) .Seems to charge fine but that whistle is driving me to slit my wrists. Is this normal? b or should i send it back? had to grind off a stud at the back to get it to fit my 1967 Riv. also I ordered vacume advance kit (crane) i have the silver springs in. initial timing set at 12 degrees. silver springs installed. pop on hard acceleration :(sounds like from carb). Rocherster quadrajet original. Any help appreciated.

    Regards

    Hi,

Are you looking for divine intervention for your Buick? This is a place for prayer requests. That being said, maybe I can help.

The alternator whine, is it a bearing noise or an electrical whine inside the car? If it is a bearing noise I would get a refund/exchange and install another unit. If it an electrical noise you can install a capacitor (electrical noise filter) to remedy the problem.
As far as the pop at the carburetor on hard acceleration, it sounds like a timing issue. Check Larry's thread on power timing your Buick V8.

Thanks for the reply. I dont think its bearings on the alternator i thinks its electrical. As for the pop sound through the carb i took the rocker cover off and valve Number 4 (counting from the front) i think its the exahust valve is not opening all the way. Im hoping its a colappsed lifter and not the cam. Ill be busy this weekend taking of the intake manifold. I'll look into the resistor. Thats a great tip. It was after I installed the lighter springs in the distributor and nailed it a few times to test them out the poping started. Was doing the power timing mentioned in the link below.

Latest update. cam lobe is flattend out on the exhaust valve that was poping back thru the carb. My own fault for nailing a 46 year old car too hard. Now I will be putting in a new cam pushrods and lifters.

I think I can put it in if i take the radiator out and maybe also the condenser for the AC. Is this possible? i dont have an engine lift and dont really want to be taking that 8 foot hood off.

So what cams and lifters / pushrods should I get. THe engine is the 430 and was bored .03 over. Recommendations?

Yes, the best recommendation I can give you is to take this over to the big block performance section.
