I finally got my GS home on saturday. I started going over the protect a plate and I hope someone can help me decode it. 176 55 E vin #434370H309208 SP458 LC 5 JR000 1 2 4 8
Hi, The VIN reads like this: 4-Buick, 34-Skylark V8, 37-2d Hardtop Coupe, 0-1970, H-Built in Flint, MI. 6 digits after that is sequential number. Hope this helps you out. Just realized that you probably already knew that, sorry.
Ido know the sp is the 350 - 315 hp . the # 's after that are shift numbers at the factory. Lc 5 is the rear end code. jr is for the 350 trans and the 000 is shift # . The 1,2,4,8 are options on the car.
The "5" after "LC" indicates that the car was built in May Options: 1 = power brakes 2 = air conditioning 4 = AM radio 8 = power steering
434370H309280 - VIN 4 - Buick 34 - GS350 37 - 2 dr coupe 0 - 1970 model year H - Built in Flint michigan 309208 - sequential serial number - 1 greater than the Flint car ordered befor it. 176 - Trim code - Saddle notchback bench seat (w/armrest ) 55 - E - paint code - Cornet Gold (55) with a brown vinyl top (E) SP458 - 1970 GS350 motor - 315hp. The 458 is production code LC - 3.23:1 open (non-posi ) rear (just like Ken posted above) 5 - assembled in May (1970) JR000 1970 TH350 transmission. Should have a production code, but the 'P-O-P stamper' may have been too lazy that day to look at the transmission. Options (just like Nick stated above) 1 = power brakes 2 = air conditioning 4 = AM radio 8 = power steering Sorry for the late reply.
Thanks Marco. Is the top supposed to be brown mine is sorta the color of the interior. damm I was hoping for a posi rear.
My 1970 assembly does not list 'E' as a vinyl top color for hardtops. It does list 'E' for a sandalwood convertible top. I'd guess the color is sandalwood...
