I don't care how far away a car is. Just ship it. But I do prefer to search for cars that are from warm dry climates, especially if I'm looking for one 30 years old. In Florida and southern coast, the salt air can be a factor too.
Here's one at Streetside Classics: http://www.streetsideclassics.com/showcar.php/atl/1428/1979-Pontiac-Trans-Am
Here is one, local for me. I would be happy to check it out. http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/cto/4418640503.html
Chris, this one was listed here in AZ on the 4th........don't know if it's still available. https://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/4407846116.html
If all you want is a late 70's TA that is not a 10th anniversary or SE, you can find a nice driver well under $19k. My advice is keep the Buick and still get the TA. You will regret selling your Buick, because when you miss it and wish you had it back you will pay way more than $14k for a similar car. Voice of experience speaking.
DingDingDing ... FTW ... plus, you'll have to conform to normalacy and hang out on "their" board instead of being happy here with this merry band of GM Misfits
Are you still looking? A friend of mines wife has one she bought new. Blue with white interior, auto, ac, all power, not an H.O. T-top? Has the bird on the hood. If interested I'll make sure they still have and get more details. I know it is low mileage and great condition.
The black one in Phoenix seems like a great deal! If you ever want to resell that "Special edition"-look will sell quicker than anything else...
