Hello restorers, looking for any pointers on installing the chrome trim on a 69 GS quarter window. I also need to order some glass setting tape and see 1/16, 1/32, 3/64 , 5/64 . Which size do you experts recommend? Is it best to install the chrome and then the rubber seal once the chrome is installed on the glass? What is the best way to hold the glass when installing the chrome?

No answer Tony, but watching. I have no idea how I did it on my last car (was a long time ago). We were thrashing to get ready for the Nationals so...

Rubber mallet,..glass won't move enough to matter,...if it's the aftermarket piece good luck,...they don't fit very well

I put a a thin bead of butyl tape or urethane myself,..only had luck with the tape one time that I remember

Those repro things are crap. Don't understand why they can't make them right. Mine were falling off even with the tape. My solution was to do a dry fit then tape off the glass and edge of chrome strip. Use some black RTV then wipe of excess and pull off tape. Can touch up with a razor blade if required once dry.

Thanks' glad to hear I had trouble for a reason but also not happy I may have more trouble down the road. Yes, it's come off before and I might want to use a nice used one vs the reproduction piece. Thanks Guys!

    My set came with 2
Black plastic/ rubber strips. For the crome to glass. I set the strip over the front edge of glass and taped the crome on with a flat 2"x 2" about 10" long of wood, hitting it with a mallet up and down even. Then every time I rolled passinger side down it pulled off. After recleaning, I used black 3M weather strip adhesive on the edge of the glass. Then carefully
Inserted the strip on the glass. Then reinstalled the crome. Let it sit a day. No more problems.
