I almost have the engine back together, and I want new plug wires.

It's a '73 455 bored 0.030" over, TA Stage 1 aluminum heads, 10.1:1 pistons, street/strip HEI, aluminum intake 800, cfm carb, TA cam 288 94H if I recall, it has just over .50" lift, 1 7/8" primary headers, I'm using NGK FR5 plugs currently. On paper it's just over 400 horse, and I'd like to be able to actually drive the car this summer

I had been using Accel wires and they stink on ice. What are better wires? I know I'll have to order them but I don't mind

    Plug Wires

Taylor makes a nice set of black wires with white lettering that is close to stock looking. Called Taylor Spiro Pro. Part # 73055. They are 8mm in size. Cost is around $50-55. Jegs carries them. I have used them on a couple of GS's and am pleased with the quality. It is not a custom made set as you have to cut to length and make up the plug end of the wire but everything is included in the set.

    Hope that helps.

MSD 8.5 mm Super Conductors do the job just fine for me Chris. :TU:

Taylor wires, bought a set this spring and checked them last week, they were all under 1000 ohms except one which was 23,000 ohms. So I took it back and they gave me a new one which I went to put on tonite and thought better check it. Well :Dou: 1.4 Megohms, that's 1.4 million for those who don't know, well I'm going back tomorrow and taking my ohmmeter with me.
If you do buy Taylor, check them before you even start cutting.

Chris, I have gone with Taylor and made them up myself. Very nice looking wires.

Well, now that I have "eight" good Taylor wires on my car it makes all the difference in the world. :) Pulls hard right through 5000 RPMs so yeah I'd recommend them but I'd find a local supplier and take a volt/ohm meter with you and check them before you leave. Could save you half a summer!

If only I could find my multi meter :Dou:

I sorta just tossed tools around last winter- no heat, and the door had to be open (Long story)

Surely they have Radio Shacks in Boston, should be able to get one for less than ten bucks. When I lose a tool I find the best way to find it is to buy another one. That's why I have 3 1/2 ratchets,5 3/8 ratchets, and about 130 sockets at last count. Problem, still can't find what I need when I need it.. Couldn't find a feeler guage, have two, the other day and used calipers to measure cardboard til I found one .016 to set my points. :Do No:

Oh, I found it yesterday. But yeah, I have three 3/8" ratchets, two torque wrenches, etc, etc, etc.

Radio Shacks are getting hard to find though

If you dont want to make the wires yourself, the 8mm MSD wires for a BigBlock Chevy fit pretty well - not as good as making them yourself but they all reach
