I have a 69 gs 350. Heres what my baby has- freshly rebuilt 350 boared .30 over, has a mild poston cam, mild p&p heads, 800cfm q-jet, Pertronix electronic ignition, TA headers, running though magnaflow mufflers. The car has PLENTY of off the line power, the only way i can get traction when i pound it is if i have a full gas tank and two 250lb passangers in my back seat. Off the line power isnt my problem, my car has no top end. Once i shift into 3rd the car is just slow. I am not an avid racer, but i like my car to have the best performance possible. I belive my car has the stock 3.23 gears and no posi. What gears would give me the best acceleration in 3rd gear without losing its street ability? Thanks for the help
If you have a little cam in it, it should pull hard to 5000 at least. Do you have the right valve springs for the cam? Does the car pull hard and then flatten out at high RPM, or is it consistently too slow throughout 3 rd gear? Unlikely, but it could be a tranny problem (but look everywhere else first.) Where does it shift? Do you have a stock fuel pump? If it's not new, change it-- 20 or so bux anywhere. I will guess valve float or running out of gas. Frank
My cam is a poston gs350-113 i believe. Im not sure on what springs i have, but when i ordered everything i called and talked to poston and got everything they recommended for my application. The car pulls good, then as soon as i hit third i feel an immediate loss in exceleration. I am not sure of the shift points becuase i dont have a tach. I think mph wise it shifts into second at 35mph and third at 65mph, thats when its punched. Yes, i am using a new, but stock fuel pump and i am also unsing an electric fuel pump in high performance situations. Adding 105cubs isnt an option...even though i would love it!
8 degrees inital means should have 28 total. It will run best about 34 total, try advancing it. With 28 degrees, your good for about 150 shot of nitrous!
