It's a tough situation but I can see you have got some great backup (your best half I mean) . Great thing that you were both able to stand together on this . In times like yours you can't become an "Island" stick this out . I hope you may be able to pull some sort of a private IT (or whatever it's called today) when your wife finishes her courses . If it sounds right (becoming your own boss) start putting things together, like forming a business plan .
You're young ,smart and up on the latest technology etc . you can do this if it fits into your plans .
    Good Luck ,

    Mark ,
Take a look at the railroads. They use a lot of people with your skills. Good bennies and retirement.

Take a look at the railroads.

I second that also. There will always be a need for railroads. Good luck and hang in there.

Mark, I wish you a speedy re-entry into employment. I know very little about IT stuff, but I was pretty good at tailoring my resume to fit an employment prospect when I was in your position.

What sort of resume writing skills have you read up on?? A great book that helped me was "Power Resumes", unfortunately, I no longer have it, so I cannot remember the author's name.:Dou: Another is "What color is Your Parachute".

Have you contacted your circle of friends and acquaintances?? Many jobs never get advertised, but are filled by networking.:TU:

    Good luck with your search.

I've sent out a bunch of resumes but only one reply so far from the Central Ohio Railroad. I have a few more places to visit today then I'm going to start talking with some recruiters.

I looked into starting my own consulting business but ran into one major snag, I am unable to get private insurance (health reasons). I would have to wait until my wife starts working to be covered under her insurance.

The resume writing helper I'm using is called Lady Bug Design. My previous employer set me up with it. I received a lot of friend support but no leads towards a job.

Did I mention I will relocate? My father-in-law said he would help my wife and kids if I had to relocate until my wife got out of school. Maybe this is an opportunity to start new somewhere.

Thanks for remembering me and keeping me in your prayers.

I am pretty sure that as long as you have insurance now, you cannot be denied getting insurance regardless of your health.

I am unable to get private insurance. I called a few insurance companies and that is what I'm being told. They told me to stick with Cobra until I get another job or my wife starts working.

I have received nothing but decline notices or no replies from the several resumes I sent out. Suddenly today I had three phone calls almost back to back. The first one was a contract that was doable but I would be taking a serious pay cut. The second was a 8 month contract in Toledo (137 mile commute). And the third was a contract with Cardinal Health which is about 10 miles from my house.

Thank you for remembering me. Hopefully one of these will pan out or other opportunities pop up.

third one sounds handy... worth any money though?

It's a 5 to 6 month contract with option to hire. I would be making the same amount of money.

Dude, I hope things work with either of these, but I hope you get the one that suits you best. God bless, bro!

None of those three turned out. I had another interview somewhere else and everything was looking good. They called me back for a second interview. Then I was told after the interview that I was over qualified for the job and would be bored.

I found a new recruiter a couple weeks ago who is trying to hook me up with some contracts starting in December. We're supposed to interview next week.

    Man this stinks...
