Hi Guys..I just got a 4 Door 1967 Buick Skylark that came with fender skirts (see the photos i attached)..what i want to do, is take those off, and replace them with wheel well trim..i read somewhere that only the Gran Sport models had wheel well trim in 1967..is this true?..I also read that there were different styles of moulding on top of that..i'm very confused by all of this, and i can't even start trying to find this wheel well moulding if i don't even know what to look for..can somebody please look at the photos of the 67 Skylark that i attached, and tell me what trim package i have, and what style rear wheel well mouldings i should be looking for..i'm really lost with this stuff..thanks, royce

Some one correct me if I'm wrong.
From what I've seen the 67 GS340/400's and Special Deluxe had the 1pc. rear wheel well mouldings. I've seen these same mouldings on some wagons too.
The plain jane "Special" had no wheel well mouldings or the 4 thin pieces of tail lense trim. All Skylarks had skirts with the chrome trim on them.

If you are looking for trim to go around the wheel well from the front of the well where the trim is now to to one at the rear a 66 rear wheel well trim might be you're best bet but there will be a 1'1/4" space from the 66 wheel well moulding to the existing moulding at the rear. You'll have to fab something up. Also the 66 trim is not exactly the same the 67.
I could supply pics. if you would like.

Thanks for that info Ray!..I had no idea that this would be so difficult to do..I've never done any work like this, so i hope i can do this!..here is an email that i got today from someone else about this:

"In 1967, Skylarks used fender skirts and the GS model used stainless, rear wheel opening moldings. Most people don't like the rear fender skirts and prefer to use the wheel opening moldings that the GS used. Demand is high on them, and supply is very low.
1967 Skylark moldings are one year only and are even different depending on trim package. Front fenders use 3 different molding types"

What does he mean by different trim packages?..Can somebody tell me what trim package is on my skylark? (see photos in the first post of this thread)..Also, can somebody tell me how many different styles of rear wheel well stainless moulding there are for 1967 skylarks, and what they are called?..Is there a good book out there somwhere that i can learn all this stuff from?..I thought i would just be able to buy some 1967 rear wheel well mouldings that would go right on without modification..I would like to see some pictures if you have some Ray, just to get an idea of what this entails..Any help you can be with this will really be appreciated..thanks, royce

Rear wheel opening moldings were an available option on all 67 Specials.

All 67 GS's had them as standard equipment.

Available on SportWagons and Special wagons. These are a little longer at the rear than sedan/coupe/converts, however they can be trimmed to fit your 4dr correctly.

Other than the wagons there are not any variations such as the 3 different ones used on the front fenders.

    Parts #'s as follows:
Moulding Pkg. Whl. Opening sedan/coupe/hdtp and convert
    4229834-5

    Moulding Pkg. Whl. Opening SW/SportWagon
    4229865-6

    keep the skirts

why get rid of the skirts? That's what sets a Skylark off from the rest of the 67 GM "A" body crowd. The rear wheel modling will not line up with body trim that is on your Skylark, it will go to the bottom of the wheel arch front and back - pobably could be trimmed off, but you have a great look the way it sits. You can see in my 67 how the trim goes full arch

I assume you've looked at ebay parts and accessories for 67 Skylark.
Once in a while I would see some on there when I had my 67 Special.
They are hard to find. Got lucky with mine and found a full set right here
on V8Buick. But as been previously stated you will have modify them to
work on your skirted Skylark because of the side moldings. Those skirts look
pretty good so leaving them might be the best solution.

wow!..thanks you guys!..that's a beautiful 67 Skylark Keith!..and thanks for that info henry..so let me see if i got this straight..The rear wheel moulding that i need, is the 67 GS, or 67 Special moulding (which i assume are identical?)..and once i get that moulding, i will have to modify it to connect up with the moulding that is already on my Skylark?..and what's this about using rear wheel well moulding from a 66 Skylark?

Here is a few pics if the 66 trim were used on the 67 and a shot of 66/67 rear wheel well trim. Mods would be needed to make mouldings close to each other. Also 66 well trim has a slightly different shape than the 67 although you can't see in the pic..

Wow Ray, thanks for those pictures!..I take it that in picture #4, the 67 moulding is on top, and the 66 moulding is on the bottom?

67 grand sport Buicks and Packers RULE!!

You need the wheel well mouldings from a Skylark without skirts. It would go from in front of the wheel where the body side mouldings are to the back of the wheel where the body side moulding is. The 66 wheel well mouldings are differant then the 67. The 66 wont look like the front mouldings that you have on the car now. The GS and Specials didnt have the body side mouldings on the side of the car so they had wheel well trim that went all the way around the opening. I have found that the Skylark wheel well trim is much easier to find than the GS and Special trim.
I dont have any at this time but I will keep looking for them at the salvage yards.

    no such animal

In 67 there was no such animal produced as a Skylark without skirts.

I am 99.9% sure that they made a Skylark without skirts as I have seen them in salvage yards and didnt take the trim as I have a GS 400. I also looked in all of my factory pamplets and can find no mention of skirts being standard on the 67 Skylark. I could be wrong, and it wouldnt be the first time, but I do think there is a set of them on a car about 50 miles north of me.

    Hi Scott!
First, let me thank you for jumping in on this thread..I am only recently getting back into the old buick cars (my favorites)..I had three 1965 Skylarks (one a GS) between the ages of 16 and 25, and after all these years, i was feeling nostalgic, and wanted to pick one up..The one i found came with fender skirts, and all i wanted to do, was replace them with wheel well moulding..I never imagined it would seem so difficult!..You're the first person to tell me that getting actual Skylark rear wheel well mouldings was even possible..I talked (if you could call it that) to a guy this morning who hung up on me (!?) because i didn't know exactly what to ask for..(i still feel a little bummed, just for being subjected to the negativity of it all) At this point i'm afraid of asking anybody else any questions!..All i know is i would love to find whatever rear wheel well moulding it is that is supposed to go on this car! (the photos are in the first post of this thread)..is there rear wheel well moulding that goes with the trim package i have?..What is the trim package i have?..Do these trim packages have a name, or do they go by some sort of numbering system? Is there some kind of book i could learn this all from?..thanks again scott!

Let's try this basic page from the 1967 Buick Selling Manual

here is page 8 from the 1967 Buick Selling Manual stating that skirts are standard on Skylark. Check first item on Skylark regular equipment list. In 27 years of specialing in 67's and even seeing base skylarks with absolutley no options, I have never seen or heard of one without. Also, it would have a delete skirts spot on the order forms which there is not. I am 100% sure that Skylarks had skirts, period. :Dou: You probably have seen 66 Skylarks in the yards, which of course didn't have skirts.

    Hey Guys,
I talked to someone today who said that they might be able to find a right and left set of these wheel well mouldings for me, and that it would cost me about $350.00..is that a fair price?
