TorqueMonster1 Making My GS Great Again!

Thanks for reading my post. I am trying to figure out which rear defrost is correct for my car. I have read many MANY past threads about this subject and think I know whats correct. 69 is different from 70. 70 is different from 71-72. However, early 70 is different from late 70. So, I am trying to figure out when my 70 GS 455 (not a Stage 1) was built. I have the Sloan Documentation for my car. In the report it says my cars "Invoice Date" was 10/08. Is that October 8th, OR the 10th day of August?? AND, was it Oct or Aug of 1969 or 1970?? The last 6 digits of my VIN are 144370. I think that tells me my car would have to have been made in late 1970. Thank You!! Mark

10/08 would be October 8th. Are there any other stickers, like the compliance sticker on the driver's door jamb, still around? Or maybe the tune up decal will have some info. And that would be in 1969. The new models start production in August/September.

What is the date code on the cowl tag? 08_ or 10_or it could even be 11_ depending on the actual invoice date.

Thanks for the reply guys. Mike, I will go look at the cowl tag tomorrow and let you know what it says. SteeveeDee, I will look around and see if there are any others decals or stickers. I don't recall any but will look. I thought the last 6 digits of the VIN was the cars "production number". If that's correct does that mean that my Buick was the 144,370th car made during its production year? If so then, is there any way my 1970 GS 455 was made in Oct of 69 OR would it have to have been produced in Oct of 70? Thanks Guys! Mark

October of 1970 would be a 71 model year car. I believe the VINs started the model year at 100000 so it would make your car the 44,370th car and that would include all "A" body cars.

Here is a pic of my cowl tag. Mike Trom, I hope this helps to determine when my 70 GS 455 was built. I am thinking Oct 8th 1969. All replies are appreciated!!

    Thank You!! Mark
