I am planning my 455 street/strip buildup for my '87 Estate wagon. I want a 2500-5500 power range and 525hp/550tq (estimated/optimistic?) with fully ported Eddy heads, a split-pattern custom hyd. cam and 464cid. I know you guys HATE hypereutectic pistons, but I am not scared of them from past experience. I plan on ZERO nitrous and conservative timing with good fuel, and proper bore clearance. Our dragster has the FM/SpeedPro hyper. pistons in it with iron heads and aprox 10.5:1 compression and we run blended pump 93/114 TracTek with no issues, and I have run MoPar big and small block KB hyper. pistons forever with good results (proper ring gaps!!!). I like the KB357 piston's generous valve reliefs and quench-pad, as opposed to a bowl dish or negative deck spherical dish, in terms of quench. Has anyone used these KB357s with good/bad results, and would these be viable for some extra power over the SpeedPro hypers or dished forged units???
Also this motor is supposedly on the edge of being able to use a Stg1 OEM type mechanical pump, do you guys think I could get away with running one? I don't really want the buzz of an electric pump giving me away in the staging lanes (sleeper!), so is there a better mechanical pump option? The extra weight and mass of this full sized beast will slow it down some and reduce the "g" forces, will that help the Stg1 pump out or no difference?
I still have zero responses in a half-dozen posts about '77-90 "B" body/full size header fitment. Will A/G body (GS-Skylark/Regal) headers fit with MINIMUM/zero dimpling/mods??? Thanks, RB
