If you are not able to hear it run, it's a core. I think that $500 is a bit on the high side but not outrageous for a 264 core. The only person who would want one would be someone who had a '55 special that needed an engine. Since a 322 is a bolt-in and is more plentiful, why not go with a 322? If the '55 Special owner is replacing the engine, it won't be a numbers matching car anyway. Having said all that, a 264 can be made to perform very close to as well as a 322. If I lived within about 50 miles of it and it could be purchased for $250; I'd buy it for inventory (if it turns over freely).

Yea I’m by no means an expert on nailheads but I figured maybe someone on here was looking. It’s close enough to me if anybody was interested

I was wondering what that meant as well but I thought maybe it was a nailhead thing?

The ad says a late model running 1955 Buick. I would check the numbers and see if what the seller means is a late production 1955. There were no 264-specific heads - the 264 used the 322 heads. Interestingly there were no 1955 specific heads either. The early 1955 engines got 1954 heads, the late '55s got 1956 heads. Presumably the 1956 heads were better, as the 4-bbl 1956 322 put out 19 hp more then the '55s were rated. A late '55 engine likely will perform a tad better then an early one.
