    Hello Everyone
I seem to remember reading about people having problems running Hypereutectic Aluminum Pistons in there Buick 455's. Can anyone explain to me these problems.
    Thank You

Bob- These pistons are sensitive to detonation. They will run fine in a street combo with a mild setup. They will not hold up under any detonation however. I'm running them around 475 Hp 10 to 1 compression with a Poston 113A cam and have had no problems whatsoever. Mike D.

I'm running these pistons in my 455 truck motor, 9:1, 220/235 cam, coming up on 4500 miles and no problems yet, I hope I didn't jinx myself by saying that!

The reason I was asking was I just bought a 455 and the person gave me these pistons .040 over along with some more parts and wondered if it was worth using them or just spend the money and buy forged pistons. I want this engine to be very reliable after it's rebuild and hold up to all kinds of abuse. I'm not afraid to spend money on good parts. I would like to build an 11 second engine for my 70 GS.

Get the forged pistons, they are much more durable, and better for high performance engines(read 11 second car). Kinda hard to avoid a little detonation over the life of the motor(looking for optimum ignition timing, bad gas etc.) Besides, why bore the motor .040 over, when maybe .030 will do.

i would definetly go with the forged pistons , you dont want to go through all the work and tme of putting an engine together ,just to have to take it apart when the pistons break. put good stuff in the inside the first time then you can always add other power adders later on ... just my opinion . mike

    i would run the hyper's
We run a 455 with the poston 110 cam, stage 1 heads, s divider intake, holley 830, poston headers, 9in 4.56's gears, 29.5x10.5x15 hoosiers in a 3370 1989 buick regal body (g body frame).

The cars ran 11.508 today at 117.86 mph.
The motor has been race only for 3 years with the hyper's.

    Thanks
    Dustin

Bob If you are looking to sell the pitons in the future let me know. I have a stuck SF block that I know will need at least .30 so .40 would be safe. Thanks and good luck with your build.

i run hypers, no problems, but i run proper gas, and no NOS, if you are running forged or hypers, and are not running proper octane thats abuse.
