Was wondering if anybody had any pics of a 350 block with the dome taken off, sorta looking down at the camshaft area. Wanted to compare somethings to mine.... Thanks

If you were wondering about the "roughness" of the cut in the lifter valley that shows through to the cam shaft, that is factory. These blocks were "sand cast" I believe it was called, and left in that raw form when built. I wondered the same thing a couple months ago, and figured this might have been your question. :TU:

    otter It'll be done someday.

Now this raises the next logical question: is there any advantage to getting in there with a dremmel or something and cleaning that up? I have a "76 455 block that is going to get a few mods done to it as soon as it gets above 20 degrees outside and I was thinking about deburring this area. Any advantages to doing so? reduce stress cracks or aid in oil travel or something? :Do No:

I remember a buildup they did on a 455 in one of Steve Dove's books, they removed the "casting flash" ( thats what they called the roughness you're talking about). I think it was to reduce the possibility of stress risers and other things.
