I posted some pictures of my 71 GS convert from the day I got it until now. The car is now in the "assembly" garage awaiting the new 455. I'll post more as the assembly progresses. I hope the link works this time! http://www.imagestation.com/album/p...942407&mode=invite&DCMP=isc-email-AlbumInvite
Hey George, Nope, I used a sprayer. I've got pretty much all the toys (tools) needed to do a restoration. One of those is a large compressor so that I can paint and right at home. The compressor is one of the best pieces of equipment I ever purchased. The next thing I have to purchase is a mig welder. Then I'll really be cooking! :3gears: Harvey
George Yes, I would guess about 80% POR and 20% thinner. (Proper breathing apparatice is required when spraying.) POR goes on real nice at that consistency above 50 degrees. I wouldn't want to try it below that temp. Painting the underside was quite easy to do also. I raised the entire car up about 3 feet. That made it quite easy to get around underneath. I would normally have taken the body off the frame but I didn't have to with this one because it was so clean to start with. Harvey
Looks Good Harv.... But that is exactly how NOT to support a car. :Smarty: You have the weight bearing on the thin, side piece of that cinder block, a big no no. That thing can let loose at any moment, and you would probably be safer to work under the jack (and I would never do that). ou:
Harvey, nice work. Happy to see you're fixing up the old girl and haven't encountered any surprises along the way.
Harvey, The car looks good. Are you still planning on selling when it's all back together. The throttle cable bracket mailed out on Monday. Rick picked up the trailer today so he is one step closer to picking up your new car. Scott
Marco and Mike Thanks for the compliments. I've still got the engine and paint to go. Then she'll be ready for summer! (and for sale :ball: ) Everyone keeps telling me I'm crazy to sell it but its all a matter of economics. Scott, GREAT! Love to hear Rick is gathering the necessary supplies (and equipment) for the trek east. Also, thank you once again for your help with the bracket! :TU: Yes, the car will be sold once it's finished unless I can find a way to finish my 67 GS and my new 70 project and keep the convert. I'm not married to the 67 anymore and it would be nice to have the 71 convert and a 70 Stage 1 4 speed. But you know how much I wanted a 4 speed and if I'm going to do the 70 "right" I'm going to have to sell something. I guess I really won't be able to make a final decision until I see the convert finished. When it comes to cars I fall in and out of love very quickly! Cheers Harvey
Harvey, it'd be really hard not to keep the convertible. Number one, it's a convertible. Number two, it's probably one of the 71 Stage 1 convertibles. Although it's hard to prove one way or the other, it is almost without doubt an original big block that for some reason has the Stage 1 badges on it. Probably as hard to disprove as to prove. So once you get it all set up back to Stage 1 spec, how can the 67 compare? If you decide to go that way, I'd appreciate first dibbs as a former owner. The guy on ebay that let it fall through was quite foolish.
I agree.... I've had that car on my wish list for a long, long time, back before you purchased it. :ball: :bglasses:
