Nothing new on her yet. Just been making a list of all the parts I'm gonna need. For this summer I decided to paint the factory steel wheels, run the hub caps and some 14 inch redlines on her for now. Goin the cheaper route for now. Still concentrating on getting another motor built for my special.

Haven't lit her off yet. Soon though. Can't wait. Never heard a old nailhead gs through factory exhaust. Definitely keep everybody posted.

Sound will depend on the condition of the mufflers....
I was blown away when I discovered the red '66 i bought from Calif still had the original exhaust system on it! Date coded mufflers and all...
But one of the mufflers was blown up a bit and it sounded kinda load and poppy.
Swapped out that system and put on a Magnaflow 2.5 inch system that was too loud..... put some Walker mufflers on it and it's much better.
Put a Gardner repo exhaust on my silver car, but it's still 'under construction'.

BTW, that vert is a nice find!
Spring arrived very late here in Pa.... today was one of the first decent weekends since October. Might go for a GS cruise tomorrow!

Yeah these are the original date coded mufflers still on her. But I have a feeling there not gonna last to long. I'm also gonna do that magnaflow kit. My dad ran it on his 65gs. He switched out the mufflers also. Not a big fan of the sound. But the stainless exhaust kit is really nice and the turn down tail pipes fit perfect on his 65. I'll be getting that kit this summer.
Hey Walt, how does your red 66 sound with those walker mufflers? Did they get rid of that loud drone those magnaflows have?

Nice vert. Great find. Good luck with it. I'd like to get a vert one day as well. Keep us updated.

The Magnaflow kit is a nice system. It will require trimming for the best fit. To use the longer Walker mufflers on the Magnaflow system, you have to shorten the x-pipe by cutting/welding. The 3 tailpipe options gave enough extra tubing to tie it in to the exhaust manifolds.
Amazon had it on sale a few times around 2009 for under $350.
The MF mufflers drove me nuts. At cruise, every time I touched the gas it made lots of noise. The Walkers quieted it down a lot, but you'll still hear the exhaust at all times. Odd, but the same Walker mufflers are on my blue car and it's quieter. It has headers and 2.5 inch steel with H-pipe.

    Walt,
You and Jimmy are walking/talking encyclopedias when it comes to these cars. Thank you both for helping out us less knowledgeable people and you make our rebuild journeys easier.

    Thank you!!!!

    Definitely agree. Thanks guys!!
I noticed that too when I had put headers on my blue gs. She quieted down a lot. And it's quieter than my dads 65's. He has manifolds on all his car and we both are running 2 1/2 flowmasters.
