Does anybody have a picture that they could post that shows the routing of the choke tube from the exhaust manifold to the rear carb?
I think that there should be two. One is the steel line that runs to the choke housing and the other runs where? I've looked thru my service manual and can't find anything.
Also, if there should be two tubes from the manifold, I think that one of mine might be broken. How can this be repaired? Can I solder a small piece of steel tubing in its place?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You,

There should be a tube running thru your right side exhaust manifold.
At the front side the hot air tube runs up to the choke housing.
At the rear there is a tube that runs up to the right side of the rear carb air horn.
You may have to pull the manifold to check and make sure that the tube running thru the manifold is NOT corroded thru. if it is it will allow exhaust / carbon to build up and cause all kinds of headaches.

    hope this helps

If originality is not of concern to you, you can get an electric choke conversion kit from NAPA. Mine cost about $50 and it works great.:bglasses:

I'm not sure, but I think Al is right.
I'll have to get a photo of mine tomorrow while the sun is still out.

    Thank You!

Thank you for the responses. I thought that there should be two, by the way the tube runs thru the manifold.
I trying to keep it as original as possible, so I don't want the electric conversion.
Does anybody have a spare choke tube with the mystery cloth wrap? The one I found in the trunk is kinked pretty bad. I am going to try to repair it, but if not, does anybody think that Carmen Faso might have one?
    Thanks Again.

I bought a set from Classic Tube that looks OK, has the wrap and everything. I can see if I have the invoice.

Originally one goes from the nipple on the air horn on the rear carb to the bottom nipple on the exh. manifold. The top nipple on the ex. manifold goes to the choke thermostat, and that tube is the one that gets the insulation. I don't know exactly how it is bent, but there is also suppossed to be a clip that attaches to the rear rocker arm cover bolt to hold only one of the lines in place, that's the cold tube coming from the rear carb going to the exhaust manifold.

That's why I used an electric choke. And if the tube inside the exhaust manifold is cracked, which it probably is, you will be sucking exhaust into your carb and that will screw it up really quick. :bglasses:

    Inner tube is OK

The tube inside the manifold is ok. I just had them sandblasted, and it looks fine on the inside.
The tube that sticks out at the rear is about 1" to 1-1/4" long. This is where the hose to the carb air horn would connect, correct? There isn't a tube sticking out at the from of the manifold. It looks like it has been broken off sometime in the past.
Do you think it would be possible to solder a piece of copper tubing in it's place? Or is it supposed to be like this?
A photo of the manifold would be great.
Thanks for all of your help.

It probably rusted and broke off in the stainless steel exh. manifold tube. You could try drilling it out with a 1/4" drill bit. The 1/4" tubing fits inside the manifold tube.:bglasses:

The end that goes to the carb gets connected with a short piece of rubber tubing.

Here's a lousy photo of the set-up on mine.
The tube on the inside (the one that's barely visible) is the one that should connect to the carb air horn fitting.
The one on the rear of the manifold (the one with the insulation) is the one that goes to the choke fitting.
    I hope this helps.

Dualqwad, That is what I needed to see! Thank You!
Ted Nagel, If you can find an invoice from Classic Tube, with the part number, that would be great. Then I would know what to order.
Thanks to all of you for your help. One day, when I learn how to use the digital camera, I post some "in-work" pictures of the cat.
    Thanks again!
