Picked up a used rotary phase converter for the garage to run the milling machine. I have attahed pictures of the inside. The motor from the mill has 4 wires coming from it, so does the motor for the phase converter. I am not an electrician but wanted to ask if any of our board electricians has wired one of these up before. Milling machine is 2 hp, phase converter is 3hp.

might be cheaper in the long run to hire a qualified electrician.

I would guess the input, single phase 220v, would be pretty straight forward. As for the 3 phase you cant burn a motor out by mis wiring it. I do 3 phase compressors from time to time. In the instructions it says If the motor sounds funny or runs backward just switch any 2 of the 3 legs and it will correct the problem.

National Electrical Code states phases A and C should be swapped, although you are correct.Swapping any two would correct reverse rotation. Can be checked with a phase meter. I've always had people talk customers out of things like this. I've been told using a converter is fine for real quick jobs, but its just not woth it if its something you plan on using for more than just a minute or two at a time. Call around and find a friend of a friend whos an electrician.
