Permatex drying time?

Im changing the differential fluid on a Jeep Cherokee. it doesnt call for a gasket, just permatex. I just reinstalled the covers about an hour ago. Now, normally I would wait till tomorrow to give the RTV a chance to dry and then fill them back up.

Do I really need to wait? Naturally, in a shop situation where time is money, they fill them right up and back it out of the bay with no problem. Does it really make a difference?

Which Permatex are we talking about?

I use The Right Stuff from Permatex and its good to go in 15 minutes. The bottle says 1 minute but it takes me longer than 1 minute to torque the cover bolts and fill the diff. :Dou: The other stuff, maybe an hour at most. No issues.

For most things, I still use Ultra Black. I heard good things about "the right stuff", but havent tried it yet

I looked on the Permatex site and it says it dries tack free in 2 hours and cures completely in 24. I'm not on the clock on this one, so I'll split the difference and fill them up tonight before dinner. I should be safe

I don't blame you for using Ultra Black. When you see the cost of The Right Stuff you see what I'm talking about. I agree, you'll be fine if you split the time. It sets up relatively quick. Hope things are going well otherwise. :TU:

I usually wait an hour or two to give it a chance to set up a bit before proceeding any further.
