Hi, I just got a performer intake and have yet to get the Riv out of storage so the intake is just sitting in the box. I was looking at it and is there a way to use the origianl carb w/choke? If there is I can't see it. No place for the termostatic coil or any of that. But Like I said I haven't even begun to install it so I haven't thought about it that hard. Is there a way to do it, or am I going to have to run chokeless?
There is a chevy choke oil, and cover you can use, but you have to fab up your own link(use part of a wire hanger) I don't know the exact application, maybe someone else can help.
TA performance carries the choke assembly. Just tell them what you have and they know what you'll need.
Thanks guys, I'll order the TA assembly soon, One more question is: Is there a performance gain with the edelbrock? Or it strictly a weight saver? Currently, that will be the only after market "performance part" other than electronic ignition of course, I just wonder if I'll be able to notice a difference in performance or fuel economy?
If you have the intake ported before installing, it will help some on hp gain. Sure someone on here is a pro at it.
Thanks! I don't think I'll have an opportunity to have it ported, I'll just have to bolt it on. By the way, how much does the stock intake weigh?
I weighed my 73 intake and it weighed 72 lbs on a garage floor. Digital scale, too. That was nothing. We weighed an intake off a 72 Ford truck with a 390. That one came in at 109 lbs! What were the engineers thinking? Russ Waters 1970 Skylark Convertible 455 Edelbrock Performer intake, weighing in @ 12 lbs:3gears:
cool! thanks russ. I weighed my edelbrock, I came in with an average of about 15 lbs using the unscientific way of weighing myself. then picking up the intake, and subtracting the two. No matter what, I'm looking forward to getting the new intake on.
