I was looking to rebuild/replate my original, but it is in very sad shape; rust from where the fluid was leaking, etc. Saw on ebay, the parts place advertising a reproduction brake booster for 67-72 gm cars, completely new and "correctly plated" ready to bolt in. Price: $199.00 Now I don't think I could replate my original for that price, not to mention I wouldn't have to wait for substantial turn around time. Anyone out there buy one, use one, hate one, kill one, stick one up the giggy of the Parts Place, or is this really as good a deal as it is portrayed? Convince to buy or save me from myself!
Robert, I used the Eastwood kit for my booster. While no one will mistake it for Cad plating, it did come out surprisingly neat, and clean. My booster was in sad shape. I wire brushed it, then used an etchable primer, and then the Eastwood kit. This is what it looked like after I stripped and wire brushed it.
And here's a shot of the finished product installed in the engine bay. The etchable primer really filled in all the pits. It has a nice smooth finish, and I coated it in clear. Just an option for you.:TU:

Jim, We never really followed up on them. I live in a Co-op apartment, and I only have one single garage for my GS. I would have no place to put either of those cars. Maybe in the Spring, I'll check back. It didn't look like they were going anywhere.

Robert, I bought a Parts Place booster a few months ago. I haven't installed it yet but it looks good. If you have a good non-pitted core you can send it to Jim W at Tri-Shield and he can re-plate it for you.
I did mine through Brakeboosters.com (I think), and it turned out awsome, I don't recall the price off hand, but I think it was around $200 to have it plated and completely rebuilt. One thing to consider is don't ever sand the booster, this will destroy any future possibility of a clean replate.
My problem is my original unit needs to be rebuilt; it shot craps. So, I'd be looking at the time and cost of sending it out for a rebuild, then the cost of the eastwood kit, the time and cost of prepping the rebuilt unit, with unknown results that are based upon my skills. Which is scary. If the Parts Place unit is a quality one, I think that $199.00 is a pretty darn good deal; one that is fairly hard to walk away from when looking at the cost and quality issues I outlined above. Has anyone gotten one of these and are they what they say they are?
I am in the process of ordering GM Liscensed reproduction units for some of our projects. These are brand new great looking units. Unless anything changes, they are 175.00 plus shipping to me. If you would like, I'll get one for you and just ad the shipping to you. They even have the correct Delco Moraine stamping.
GREAT NEWS....Called the vendor and the price has dropped,,,155.00 plus freight. If anyone needs one contact me.
