I paid half down on a '69 skylark custom that I never saw. Bad Idea I know but I really wanted a cool skylark to drive around. Well I haven't even picked the car up (not until the 20th) but my father has ordered it's dismantle and sold for parts since I just lost my job and I need the money. There is a job shortage in my section of the province and with my savings depleted I'm stumped as to whether or not listen to my father.

I'll be sure to get some pics of the car when we pick it up and I'll decide then what to do....

    :ball: :Do No:

Well, that is a pretty tall order considering that neither one of you has ever seen the car. If the car is a driver without all of the rust issues, there is no good reason to part out the car. You need something to drive don't you? How will you get to work and back when you do find a job? That car is probably cheaper than most of the stuff you will find up there, and it is a much better investment than some import that will depreciate to a tiny sum in a few years. Sounds like the situation needs to be looked at from a few more angles before a decision is made, ESPECIALLY without ever having seen the car.

Thats what I tried telling my father. But the guy said that the car was not 'drivable' as is and runs but "rough". I'll try talking him out of it and I'll post pics soon....

If the car is to be dismantled and sold for parts. Then we should make a deal. Wait till you get the car, and if you want to sell it keep in touch with me and well take it from there.

Better off selling it to someone who is looking to restore, rather than parting the car out.

    Let me know

Here's my dad's and my opinion on the car:

    Mine:
If I'm forced to get rid of it... it's sellnig whole and to someone looking to restore it cause it's a Buick! Not cause it's classic and a good investment!

    Dad's:
he believes parting it would bring in more money than selling it whole. he now believes that it was a waste of time and money and I shouldn't have taken the gamble. If it is as good as the guy told us then he thinks it will be worth more in parts.

I dont want the car to end up in pieces. I've got a friend who says he'll try to scrape up enough money to buy it from me for a couple hundred dollars more (its probably worth it) and give me the oppertunity to buy it back if/whenever I can.

As of the moment I'm hoping for the best.

  6. Well Kyle, since you are almost 20, seems to me it is your decision what to do with this car. Hope you can keep it, or sell it whole...
