Is it possible to get the rear up off the ground & pull the cover to inspect it? You can then spin wheels to count the rotations and determine the drive ratio

    Cheers!

No need to rotate. The ratio is engraved on the side of the ring gear. Unless changed it will be a 3.42, 8.2" 1968-70 Buick gearset.

So there is absolutely no markings on the front of the pass tube. I pulled the cover and got the ratio off of the ring gear = 3.42:1 (41 12)
I have no reason to believe this is not the original housing as it looks like it has been in the car forever and a day.

Bad news on the transmisssion case! it has a small piece broken off at the pass. side dowel hole. transcase1.jpg transcase2.jpg
Probably dinged when the flexplate was replaced at one time as it has a junkyard flexplate off of a 75 455 which is also now cracked (gotta love Buicks). I might just tear it down to verify it has the high capacity direct drum (I am a transmisssion tech by trade). If the internals check out I will take 400.00 for the trans.

Some of you have asked about the headlight bezels. Here are pics of left and right. They are pitted but not broken or bent.

    Erik,

On a 70, the stamping is on the drivers side tube, about 3" in from the center section on the bottom to front side of the tube. 71 and 72's are on the passenger side.

I saw CS-Stanley replied earlier for the same part - hold-off valve. I would like to be in line behind him if he passes. Thanks.
