Can you change a pan gasket on a 70 GSX without pulling the motor? We have a small leak on Dad's GSX and want to fix it. It looks pretty tight and pan studs dont help the situation. Will the pan come out with unbolting the motor mounts and jacking the motor up a bit?

    Hey Dennis,
My GS w/ 4 speed requires the trans and scattershield removal.
The engine had to be raised quite a bit also for clearance.
My friends automatic just required unbolting the mount bolts and raising the engine a bit. No pan studs though.....

    Dennis,
I was able to do it on my '70 Stage 1,I had to drop the transmission mount, unbolt the motor mounts, remove the drive shaft, and really raise the engine to the extreme limit. But, i was able to do it I dont have studs though,so I am not sure. But since most of this stuff has to be removed to pull the motor anyway you might as well give it a shot.
Be very careful and use jack stands everywhere,I raised the engine in the front with a pump jack on the balancer with spacers in the critical areas. It was a very tricky job but I managed to do it.
    Good Luck:TU:

    Yank the motor

Yep I think by the time we mess around trying to get at it we may as well yard the motor out and make sure we get it right.

Need to do some detailing anyhow so I think pulling will be the way to go. Thanks for the infor and help Guys!
