I'm considering buying this '69 Skylark, and the owner doesn't know the car's history. I was wondering if GM put out cars with an "economy" painted roof like this vs. vinyl? It has the vinyl roof trim, but it appears to be original paint. Thoughts?
    Thanks,

They did offer 2 tone paint with trim in 70-72. Not sure if they did in 69. Just check the paint code on the trim plate. If there are two number after PNT then it is original. If there is one number and a letter then it was a vinyl top.

Great, I'll get the info from the owner and post what I find.
    Thanks,

Buick offered two tone paint for sure!
    They are un-common.

I also own a 2dr post, 68 Special that has a two tone paint scheme...
    green with a white roof.

    2 tone

I've heard it called a "poor man's vinyl top" or a "yankee top",
but BMD called it a "Two-Tone Roof Accent Color" of course it was an
    "extra-cost" option.
Underneath 85 Copper Mist and 10 Regal Black you'll see the note on 2 tone color schemes.

I had a 67 Impala that had a painted on vinyl top. Had two "seams" that were glued to the roof and the entire roof was painted in a textured black paint. It looked pretty realistic. Had the correct stainless trim. It must have been done when the car was new or fairly new because the top was quite old. Ive got a couple of pictures someplace.

i had a friend whose family in 1967, purchased a new pontiac beaumont custom 2dr ht.
the car had a "painted" vinyl looking roof applied by the dealer's paint shop. it looked quite good.
