Ever think you've got it pretty much figured out, then get thrown for a loop? My Bird goes into the shop for paint on Monday, it's currently in a very worn coat of Saddle Mist; almost from the get-go, the plan was to go Shadow Turquoise, and replace the long gone black vinyl roof. Now, my paint and body guy squeezed me in, I'm a good customer, this is the 3rd year in a row that I've had a vehicle in for work. The vinyl roof was the 1st to go, turns out that the trim moldings that were in the car, aren't the proper "V" shaped molding that tacks the vinyl down around the sail :error: - put vinyl roof on hold, paint the roof too - Shadow Turquoise, or maybe black, although without the trim moldings it just ain't gonna look right - I'll have to think about it. Two days ago, I drop by to chat and pass it on to my paint and body guy. He doesn't like "green", then again he just finished painting a 56 Chevy screaming pink - you should see it, he did a nice enough job, but frankly, it turns my stomach. I discuss these new developments with my wife - after all this time, she tells me :Smarty: she doesn't like "that green" either, i.e. Shadow Turquoise. I pull out the Ditzler chart for 66 Buick's, she likes the Gold, can live with Midnight Blue or the dark green i.e. Verde Green. I'm leaning Midnight Blue, although originally I said it should stay 66 Buick, but be something different - I always lean blue, my 89 Chevy short box is almost the same colour. Earlier today I saw a two tone 65 Impala, very dark green on top, much lighter below, I'm sure it wasn't 65 Chevy, but it was very, very nice. The 66 Skylark has a nice convenient side ridge line, which splits on the door between the door handle and keyhole - why not go 2 tone? Which leaves me leaning towards 3 darker on the bottom selections:
    1) Riviera Gold on top, black on bottom (sorta the reverse of what it was).
    2) Blue Mist on top, Midnight Blue on bottom.
    3) Sea Foam Green or Turquoise Mist on top, Verde Green on bottom.

Here are the colours, although they don't give all that much indication what they look like in sunlight:

I would have to say if you can't chose, paint it the original color. If you want green I like that silver green poly, but have not seen it on a car.

now if you wanted to paint your car Shadow Turquoise, I wouldn't give a damn what color the shop owner liked, although the wife might be a little more of a problem. There is a set of the moldings you need on ebay now.

Most importantly, don't make a hasty decision that you might live to regret just because your under the gun. Stick with what YOU want and had envisioned. I would think there are enough eyes on V8 if you need a set of moldings then a set can be found so you can get the roof you want.

Think about the interior too. I believe that interior color should not clash with the body color. I would love to paint my car midnight blue, but I've got a brown interior so that's out of the question for me.

If your paint guy would rather paint your car a different color than you then let him........If he plans on paying for it.

YOUR car only has to make YOU happy. If you like a certain color, and other people do not, I say go with that certain color, because you like it. I wouldnt paint my car another color because others didnt like the color I chose. Choose what makes you happy. Your the one thats going to be driving it (and paying for it).

I'm painting my '66 lark the original light green metallic. Not sure if its the same color as you're talking about but I've already cut in the jambs and it looks great!

Here's a pic of a '66 that looks very simular to what mine will look like. See what you think.

    Update,

Thanks for the input guys, very much appreciated.

The interior of my car BTW, is black on black, which left me alot of leeway when it came to exterior colours.

I should point out that in all fairness, Dave (my shop guy), preferred staying original. He said that pink Chevy grew on him, after turning his stomach too at first - not his 1st choice in colour. Two years ago he checked codes and painted my Riv. the original colour, the lower tone had been changed (darkened) by the pervious owner. He did a good job. Dave talked me out of the 2 tone for the Bird by pointing out the difficulties in tying it in at the front and rear - point well taken. After I had a good look at the Shadow Turquoise in the sun I realised that I'd seen a 67 Skylark for sale in Buffalo last year, painted that colour - OK, but too "green", not what I wanted. Dave's preference was original or Riv Gold, my wife's was the gold, I was leaning that way too.

Keith, I noticed those mouldings on e-bay as well, almost bid on them too. And thanks for the kind and helpful words.

My final choice? I procrastinated and made it today in fact, the trims already all off and its sanded down:

    - Turquoise Mist.

And yes, Dave was a bit surprised but OK with it, and my wife said Well, why did you ask me then?
