    I just began to sandblast the front end parts; what is the best paint to use for the zinc finish? Also, the brake caliper brackets, which paint? Eastwood?

    Thanks.

    I would get new back plates from OPG for $52 as you cannot beat that. Eastwood does have a zinc cad but paint paint needs to be rated for greater than 800F. Same for the other the pieces --cad plating is cheap in a batch . Send out the hood latch and alternator pulley at the same time.

    I wouldn't use paint. Either send em out for a pro zinc coating or do them in hi temp 1000f powder.

    Who does the zinc coating in the Central PA area? I blasted the plates and they look great; not that I am opposed to spending the money on new ones, but why buy new if the old ones are good?

    Well the new ones at OPG are zinc plated for 52 a pair. See my resto post for a pic. Some plating places charge by the batch a minimum fee. Here it is now 125 minimum.

    Ours were pitted so my decision was easy. Even if they had not been it was still twice as cheap to buy new ones.

    Jim;

    Year Ones price is $ 113.00 (plus shipping) for the pair. I will check around to see who does the coating in my area. I will send them all the stuff that gets coated to keep the price down. I'll let you know how I make out.

    Thanks for your help.

    www.OPGI.com has them for $52.00 a pair less the half of the YO price.

    Are the replacements from OPG the same thickness/quality as the originals? Do they have the part numbers on them? What about the zinc kits they sell for $ 70.00? Do they work well? Will they do many parts? The originals cleaned up so nice, I would hate not to use them. Just trying to save money where I can.

    Repros not GM licensed cannot have the p/n on them. Neither can they have GM or tri shield emblem or the word Buick etc. You may want to have yours plated. Check the locking tabs as they tend to get weak and break.

    But you are going to be faced with drawing the line somewhere. Do you want the original hot dog 2.25' exhaust? Where are you going to get the original mufflers? Are you going to strip your driveshaft? When you install new hardware will they have the same markings as original? And so forth.

    Nice photo. Are the caliper brackets painted or cad. coated?
