I posted this in another section and wanted to make sure everyone saw it so here it goes. I just picked up a 70 stage 1 4 speed. The car has the ss block, stage1 pulleys, original stage 1 fuel pump, original emblems, and distributer. The car has a paint code sco 222.(Special corporate Order?). The interesting thing is that the cowl inner a pillars and behind the body decal on the door is the same purple as a plum crazy purple I have on a paint chip chart I have. Does anyone know of the car? It has been in Mass. for many years and was painted diplomat blue over 15 years ago? Someone in the other post suggested I check the with the sloan museum, any other ideas? The gsca has never seen this code and the will be a article on it in the next gsxtra looking for your help. Any ideas guys let me know. Thanks

Sco s were used for many things like interior changes etc. We have one too. Like Duane said it is likely a numerical number for the seqence of the special item ordered.

Although many Ditzler paint codes started with the numeral "2", all the ones I have seen had at least four digits.

There is no more knowlegeable person than Duane anywhere when it comes to A body Buicks.

Is there a tank sheet or a build sheet?

What is the build date of the car? If is is Jan 1970 forward Wayne Roberts, not Sloan, has the sale info per car. Marco and Mike on this Board have some statistical data which may help shed light on this issue.

Can you post all the cowl tag info.

    IT IS A CHRYSLER COLOR

I have confirmation. Wayne has seen two other cars with sco paint and both were chrysler colors. One was hemi orange and the other he could not remember. Wayne said it was very rare but if you knew someone high up you could get any color you wanted. I might have to wait a couple of months to get the build sheet from Wayne it takes him a while to do these reports. He also said it probably wont state the plum crazy purple color because the other cars he researched did not, the paint code area was left blank. Thanks for all your help and I will keep you guys posted.

Duane my name is Herb Langlois and the car was built 12/69

Jim I will post the rest of the cowl tag info tonite. The car is over a friends house who is helping me straighten out a few issues with the car (wiring nightmare). Can you believe that I bought this car off of a 18 year old kid who's mother bought it for him when he was 16! They paid $8500 for it and didn't think it was a real stage car. Over the course of two years the kid destroyed the car, he crunched the front fender, attempted to put ladder bars on it, was about to cut a hole in the hood and install a jc whitney hood scoop, and spray bombed primer over area's of the car where the paint was flaking. I got there just in time. Can you imagine learning to drive on a 70 stage 1 4 speed!

Did you confirm Wayne had your serial number? December was the month I think the records break between Wayne and Sloan.

Did you look for the tank sheet?

    Hi Herb -

    Congratulations on your recent purchase.

Please consider registering your car in the factory Stage1 registry. We need to determine how many of these cars are surviving. Please see www.stage1registry.com for additional details.

I have an orange car in the registry that the current owner's (Paul S) father purchased new (and he has the window sticker). The car is painted 'Opel Rallye Orange'. This car (44637) is SCO-433 for an 02C build date.

Another guy has an orange '70 convertible with only Wayne's paperwork, so we're unsure if it's an opel color or a mopar color. The color is blank on the microfiche. I've yet to add his car.

    Herb,
If you find a buildsheet on top of the gastank (Production Order Body Final) it will list the SCO number along with the SCO info. It may even give the paint code number used.

I just received a 70 buildsheet from a 70 GS 350 SCO car and it listed G60x15 tires as the reason for the SCO. It was the first 70 SCO sheet I ever had.

    SPECIAL PAINT

Hey Everyone; Back in the Seventys, starting in 1970, Win Stephens Buicktown, in St.Louis Park, Minnesota would have a spring time indoor auto show called The RAINBOW OF COLORS. They would order about 60 Buicks in all models, all with special paint. The special paints were from Ford, Chrysler, and other divisions from GM.I know of this because my father was the gm there and I worked in the fleet dept. My mother drove a special paint light blue 72 Skylark Sun Coupe in 72. It was a Cadillac Firemist color. I remember Skylarks and GS'S in Chryslers bright colors-Hemi Orange, Plum Crazy Purple and so on. These cars did exist and they put this show on every year until about 1973 or 74. I wonder how many of these cars are still around?

Wayne does not decode his info but ince every several months because he does them in batches. Unfortunately he just finished a batch.

Since the car was a 2nd week of December car , the info could be with Sloan. Have you called Sloan? They will tell you over the phone . In the achieves we have the serial number for the break between Sloan's and Wayne's.

Still have a black vinyl top?

I have spoken with wayne he said he has the records but it will be a couple of months. I was just wondering if any of you guys knew him and try and speed up the process. I just want to know what I have here, I'm losing sleep over this stupid purple car.

1171 is a low Body number for a 12B build date...so that jives with the usual SCO pattern...

    Herb,
There is no speeding up the process. I have known Wayne for years, he is a very busy man, and only has limited time to look at the microfilm. Your ID plate shows the car was a SCO paint car, the rest you will have to wait for.

Unless you find the buildsheet on the gas tank, then I can help you decode it.

  20. Herb,
Congrats on your purchase and what is truning out to be a special car. Was this the car in the Want Ad about two months ago?
If your not already aware there's a large Buick membership here from Mass.
