Can anyone tell me what kind of emissions came on a 72 Skylark? I know it had the charcoal canister. Did they have a air pump or egr?

Is it a 350? My '72 350 wasn't altered by the previous owner and it has the charcoal canister, a hot air tube that draws heated air from around the exhaust manifold into the air cleaner, and a transmission controlled spark selenoid that threads into the intake manifold towards the front of the drivers side. It has vacuum lines running to the carb, the manifold and the distrubuter. Only if it was built for California would it have the egr in '72, but I'm not sure about the air pump.

Why ya worried? PA exempts 1974 and before.

Correct. Pre-catalytic convertor cars are emmisions exempt.

Thank God. I doubt highly that the Riv would pass.

They are only exempt in countys that have the emission laws. In the countys that just have the visual check the 74 and back isnt a factor we have to have everything. Dosent make any sence.

I would try to find a different garage/mechanic to perform your inspection. How about getting inspected at a garage in a different county where emissions are required? Since they don't normally have to check pre-1975 cars, they'll probably inspect it without giving a second thought.

The laws dont make much sence. There actualy tougher in the countys where there are no emission testing. . I cant get the under 5000 mile exemt here either.thats only for the countys that have the testing.

I would also try to take it to a different mechanic. One of the first things I did when I got my 225 was remove the A.I.R. pump and I was living in PA then. No emmissions testings, Monroe Co., and I just took it to a local guy w/ no problems. I might have even taken it to a Midas once for an inspection and passed no prob.

No vehicle inspections of any kind in Oklahoma.:puzzled:

They did away with them a few years ago.:Do No:

Doesn't bother me until I get behind someone without brake lights.:spank: Then the $5.00 seems very worth it to make sure everyone's car is in "safe operating condition".
