    All,
will these tires rub the fender lip on a 70 Skylark? I have 15x8 wheels with 4 1/2 " BS. I have raised the rear suspension approximately 2" with rear coil spring spacers. My current set of tires 255/60R15 on 15x7 rims with 4 1/2 BS clear the fender with over an inch on the side and about 3/4 on the top. If these tires will rub the fender lip, how does one roll the fender lip with the chrome trim present? Or will trimming the fender lip back be enough?

    thanks for your help
    Jim

:TU: tthey will not rub since you got the needed backspace of 4.5

Generally ditto. My same setup does not rub. My only caveat is that I have cargo-coils (installed by the original owner) for towing his 5,000# boat. Must have been the fastest boat hauler in California.

Yeah, you'll be fine. You should have almost 3/4" clearance on both sides. I run 325/50R15's on my car with a 5-5/8" backspace 15x10 rim.

Isn't a 295mm tire width a bit wide for a 8" rim, especially with an aspect ratio of 50?

In my opinion it is pushing the limit. I ran 275/60's on a 15x8 rim for a while and they were fine.

That's what I run and I wouldn't want to try wider. I can't imaging how bad the sidewall bulge would be for the 295/50.

Well, our cars are about 1,000 lighter than yours. So the bulging wouldn't be as bad. But you would definitely want to keep the tire pressure up to 32 psi.

I didn't mean the bulge at the footprint, but rather all the way around due to the tire beads being pulled inboard excessively to seal on the narrow rim.

alot of the tire brands state the min width as 7.5 ....measured on an 8 but obvoisly better on a 10

You wanna talk about sketchy tire/wheel width difference. Dude i bought my Lark from put 295/50r15's on 6.5" rims......:eek2: :eek2: . Saw it and laughed, then hageled him down 300 bux and bought the car. The sidewalls of the tires are soo freaking slanted i dont know how they hold air. But i wil be getting proper size wheels before she is road worthy.

Eight inch rim is the minimum listed on the BF Goodrich tire chart for a 295-50.

I looked at all the tire manufacturers that make this size tire. They all mention 8 - 10 inch rims needed. I wanted to go with a 15 x 10 with 5 1/2 BS but the extra inch BS plus would put the tire sidewall dangerously close to my tail pipes, if not hitting my tail pipes. Unless I want to redo my exhaust I need to stick with the smaller rims. The previous owner put exhaust that exits out diagonally which put the pipes closer to the rear wheels.

Hell...I really wanted to go with a set of Mickey Thompson 28X12.00R15 on the back but I knew that was a no go with my current setup.

    Jim
