I had started a thread on Overheating on a seperate area of this board. I went through several steps of troubleshooting and made some good headway but I still run at 210* and sometimes 230* on 85* days. But last night I ran between 180-185* during my hour drive home. I was driving home from getting my exhaust pipes upgraded to 2 1/2" with mandrel bends. I had 2" pipes on there before which were badly crimped in places so I know the air flow was really rerstricted. I'm wondering if opening up the exhaust helped cure my overheating problem.o No: The car definitely has better throttle response and all that. Anybody know? It's an all stock 72 GS455 in an 85 Regal. The exhaust is 2 1/2" duals with turbo mufflers. MARK
Without a doubt!!!! A "badly crimped" 2" exhaust would definately contribute to an overheating problem. The exhaust helps to remove a lot of heat from the engine. That's why the headers/exhaust manifolds get so hot when the engine is running.  Glad you got it cooled off. Let us know if it gets hot:af: again.
Here's a picture of one of the sides. I was trying to prove my case to them about how they screwed up the job. Long story short, the job was done in February, that person no longer works there because of poor workmanship (go figure), and the owner of the shop did the work himself this time.
that aint "badly crimped" that is "badly crushed" the owner should have been embarrassed to have that leave the shop and should have been grateful for the opportunity to right the wrong of the original hack job. good luck with the car
He was embarrassed. He couldn't believe one of his guys actually did the job...until I showed him the receipt. The driver side head gasket blew on my 350 two weeks after this job was done. I'm just wondering if this is what caused or contributed to it.
