Vin Man...First I exploded in laughter about the requirement of being a Raiders fan... Secondly, You sometimes have to pull it out all the way then depress the spring and it will come out. I have had them pull right and then some do the same as you have. You will just have to mess with it. Sometimes they suck trying to get them out but patience(or Vino) helps. Swearing usually wont help...but you'll feel better...lol Its amazing how quick and easy the damn things come out when they are in your hands not installed. Just one of GM's little favors we get to deal with...
    Good Luck

I am officially a F'n MORON! I give up :Dou:
I spent another 2 hours trying to get the knob out of the switgch with no luck. I ended up breaking the Plastic Retainer that's on the outside that holds it all in place and I somehow knocked the windshield wiper controls (which are right next to it) I knocked them out, so the fell into the dash.... :af:

I took off the plastic cover right under the steering column and also dropped down the plastic vent tube just so I have more room.

Bottom line..... I have literally tried every possible angle... I shot some WD40 down into it just in case it being 36 years old it was locked up.... didn't help. I even wrapped my finger with tape because after a Ten Thousand times of pushing in the spring/button, my finger was black n blue.

Once again... I'm an F'n MORON

One question: Where can I buy another plastic retainer, I only checked Year One but couldn't find one on the web page :Do No:

As soon as I get one, then I'm taking it to a shop and PAYING someone who's not RETARDED to do this because obviously I can swap my engine, take out my tranny, do most everything else to every car in my stable, but I can't change a G*D Damn switch!!!

Since this thread got a little long, I started another one. I also POSTED this there, the only reason I'm posting this again is I'm sure someone else....somewhere..... sometime..... will run into the same problem I had. Not being able to get the shaft out to replace you head light switch because..... it was melted together. Read results below:

Well gentlemen....... I bought a used headlight switch off ebay, for the shaft and bezel only, I also bought a brand new switch. I've been busy for the last few weeks so yesterday I decided to "punt" and used my bolt cutters to cut off the knob/shaft.... :Do No:

Well..... what did I find when I dropped the swicth down to unplug the harness...... a switch and harness that were all burned up and melted. The harness has a connector with 7 contacts and 2 of them were melted away!! :Dou:

By the way, I put the burned switch in my vice, I used plyers and channel locks to depress the switch to try and get the shaft out....... no go boyz. That shaft/knob must have melted plastic internally holding it in there, it aint coming out without completely destroying the switch. I do feel a little bit better because no way was that ever coming out.

My first guess is the rheostat in the headlight switch must have shorted and had constant current running through it. I hope this is the case because I can replace the connector, plug in my new switch and be all done. SO what I'm going to do since I'm more "mechanically inclined that electrically inclined", I'll drop her off at a local auto-electric shop. I'd rather have someone who really knows electrical look at, I do not want anything to catch on fire.

Question, where do I buy a new headlight switch harness assembly?

I could just buy the connector and splice all the wires, but I'm sure a new harness for a real numbers matching GSX that I have no plans to sell.... is a good invenstment.

    VinMan out.....
