I was away this weekend when my brothers beloved collie mix was killed. "Angel" was a wonderful animal who rarely misbehaved. Any dog (or other) owner will tell you that these are like children to us. She was eight years old and seemed to have eight more in her. My brother was playing tennis ball with her and he bounced one onto the street. Rarely would she go on the road, but this time she went. An old man in a truck had no time to react and hit her. My brother held her as she took her last two breaths. He and his wife are devistated. Worse yet, my bro feels he caused it and has to live with that image.
If any of you would pray for them I'd appreciate it.
I wish there was solid answers about are pets. Some say there are no souls, others say there are places in heaven. I myself have tried to use scripture as a guide, but the subject doesnt seem to be covered. I know we accept Christ for salvation and we humans are the only recipiant of his promises. But do you think animals cross over also? Or are they here to teach us about love, responsibility to Gods creation, or death? I can't help but feel that Angels ubruptly shortened life was part of a greater plan. I guess we really won't know for sure till we are in heaven. I know God will look favorably on how they treated the animal that God intrusted them. And that is a good thing. Ultimately all we have, whether its stuff or family members, is Gods. We are custodians of his wonderful creations. Thanks for your prayers.

I don't feel that I'm an astute Bible scholar or qualified to answer questions of theology, but perhaps this passage will provide some comfort for your family's loss.

    Matthew 16:19
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Dan - Real sorry to hear about your brother's dog!!!

I've never been a dog owner, but now that I've spent the last 7 months out here in CA with my sister and her little dog - I can see just how much of an impact that would be!!

As CyberBuick (Scott) can attest to, my sister's dog - Del Rey - is probably one of the cutest dogs anyone could hope for!!

Just like you stated....they become like children....my Mom considers Del Rey her first 'grandchild'!!:Brow:

You can count on prayer for your brother and family!!:TU:

All I can say is, if there are no dogs in Heaven, I don't want to go.
I can't even begin to think about an existance of time without the love that only a dog can give. There is something special in the love a pet gives, it's like no other love from any person of thing.
I found this poem as I was looking for another I thought would be appropriate.
If I find that I will post that too, it brings a tear to my eye whenever I read it.

    Sal

    DON'T GRIEVE TOO LONG
Don't grieve too long for now I'm free
I've followed the path God set for me
I ran to Him when I heard His call
I swished my tail and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To bark, to love, to romp or play
Games left unplayed must stay that way
I found such peace, it made my day.
My parting has left you with a void
Please fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, your laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too shall miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, you've given so much
Your time, your love and gentle touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your head and share with me
God wanted me, He set me free!
