Does he gaurd good? How is his temperament and how was he as a puppy? Do his back legs/hip dip in like a shepherd?
He's VERY vocal with a low bark. We took him from daughter's ex-boyfriend when he couldn't keep him anymore. He needed LOTS of training in the beginning and I'm sure would have been fine if we would have had him from the start. As it was, it took about a month with a professional trainer to straighten him out, otherwise we would have had to put him down. VERY AGGRESSIVE in the beginning but is now just a big baby, although make sure we know you are coming if you don't want to get cornered. When Duane came, it was a couple of WOOF"s and then once I said he was OK, pretty much licked him to death. I'll try to find a picture of him all grown up and post it.
You should see Toby. He is a little smaller but once he lays on you, you aren't going anywhere. Duane
Ok, That one flew straight over my head... Explain, please. Of course, they could be like the dog my brother brought back from Spain after being stationed there in the 70's... A 100 % (YES, one hundred percent) PURE-bred Spanish Mongrel...
...we'll forgive you this time. Conversation went to DNA and 1/1024th was s subtle reference for those who are politically "woke." Regarding DNA, likes of Ancestry and 23 are making fortunes selling data they're collecting from marketing basic genealogy to the masses. Humans are over 90% the same, and if you go back 3500 years, we're all related. I want to see DNA used to correct genetic issues. As relates to dogs, I'm hoping research will find and cure breed faults, especially in my beloved dobies, number one breed afflicted with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and related Sudden Cardiac Death. Two of our last 3 dropped dead (SCD), and third had DCM, which we managed for a while with meds. Statistically, by 2040, entire breed will be at risk...
...Ronnie, I love shepherds too. Loyal and obedient to a fault. Was my first purebred. We learned obedience training together. Went everywhere with leash hung around my neck. Only put it on him for comfort of others. Then came dysplasia, where I had to watch him lose his legs one-by-one. While I have hope for DNA research, I likely won't live to see it for dogs...
