Lots of great minds here on v8buick...let's figure this out. I was in the middle of a split cycle when the piston just stopped out of the blue. Won't go up or down. Nothing. Engine is running great, no noises. Is there a break-away pin or something in the coupler at the pump-to-engine connection? I don't want to just start tearing things apart before I have a clue of what might be the problem. TIA
That connection is the first thing I'd look at. Of course I would have torn it apart without knowing exactly how it works. Can you see if the pump input shaft is still spinning?
I don't heat with wood, so I don't have to split a bunch of wood. We do like to have camp fires, just about every night in the fall. This is my log splitter. https://www.gransforsbruk.com/en/product/gransfors-large-splitting-axe/
If it won't go either way you must not have any flow or the handle is incommunicado with the valve. A quick diagnosis would be to crack the return line from the valve block and see if there is flow. Do it at an idle and only loosen it as much as necessary.
Found the problem. Plastic coupler spacer was munched...just bought a new 3-piece kit on Amazon for $24 I bought this thing used, and I can get about an hour of operation out of it before something goes wrong. I have a bit of wood to split, yet....
The pile is a bit overwhelming. It is what's left over after I had the area cleared for my new building. All red oak.
I figured. lol I fix industrial equipment all day, everyday for the last 25 years. I've learned the hard way to always check the simple crap first. lol You'd be surprised how often an employee shuts off the air, hits an e-stop or doesn't even hit a start button.
That's some nice burning wood! I was splitting all sugar Maples. I couldn't even count how many times I hit a steel tube while cutting. At One point I was changing saw chains every 15 mins. My dad would sharpen as fast as I handed them to him. lol
