I have a 1971 Skylark I'm in the begining stages of the cars build.
I'm building a bracket car that will see some street use.

For now I can us some input as far as the cars body style.

Here is what I have in mind for the body.

    A) 1970 with dog dish wheels(Plan Jan)

    B)1970 GS Stg1

    C)1970 GSX

The car is a 71 I would like to model it after a 70.

I'm looking for any and all input. Thanks!!

I plan on building the car to run low 10's

Well, you will have to change a lot to make it a 70:

Bumper, bumper brkts, frt parking lights, headlight bezels, grill, hood latch support, hood trim, rear bumper, rear taillights, BUICK rear plate, rear bumper brkts. Would be a lot easier to make a plain jane sleeper. Better to put the money towards drivetrain than cosmetics.

I would agree with above. If the car is going to primarily be pounding the local drag strip, spend your money on a realiable drivetrain and don't spend the extra $$$$ on making it look like a GS or GSX. For the cost of a GS hood/spoilers/emblems/etc., you could probably get a lot of bang for the buck in the transmission and rearend.

I'd keep her looking like a plain old Skylark. Then watch their eyeballs pop :eek2: when you throw down that low-10 second pass.

Use your money to build the motor and drive train, and plenty of it,if your planning on low 10's with a reliable combo. And,streetable is questionable ,unless maybe you are planning on "squirting" it.
Plan on taking a lot of weight out too.I'm not trying to put a damper on your aspirations, just being realistic, been there done that a whole lot of times.

Thanks for the advice. It won't cost me anything to keep it just as it sits,Plan Jane...

LOL!!! Maybe i'll call Bill after the car is built, and take him for a ride so he can see it's not that bad with a 455 12 point cage and ladder bars....
