    Hi guys,
I am new to this site but not new to Buick ownership. While I was growing up my father owned 2 Skylarks. My first car was a 1974 Regal, then a 1972 Skylark, my Brother owned 2 1972's as well.
After finding this site I got the bug again. After a 15 year hiatus I bought a matching #'s 1970 GS 350. The car is lime green with green bench seat and AT on the column. 100k miles and it looks it. Good part is that it is a CA car very clean, very original. I consider the car a good starting point for the car I want which is Strotmist Blue with a black interior, front disc brakes and a 4 spd manual.
Question is am I starting with the wrong car? I think that the changes I am considering will not hurt the value of this car. If anyone is looking for a collector GS they are looking for a 455 stage 1 etc. All I want is a driver that I can occasionally take to a cruise, local car show or out for ice cream.

    Interested in your opinions. Thanks

My opinion is if you are going to modify why not start with a Skylark, keep a matching number musclecar original.

I would have to agree, if you want to build a car, start with something that you can't de-value. Skylarks are easy enough to come by, and are great for that purpose. If you don't want to do that, keep what you have and restore it to original, and keep your eyes peeled for the car of your dreams. I think half the fun is in finding the cars and searching for the ones that have the options you want. It'd be a pretty boring world if everything was a Black/Red/Blue Stage 1 4 speed with bucket seats. :TU:

    Thanks guys!

    Chris & Rusty,
thanks for the comments. I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't leaning that way.... but you knew that! Minor changes that can be returned to original I can see. Cutting holes in a 34 yr old rust free floor doesn't sit well.
The disc brakes I am already buying parts for. The mountain road near my home is infamous. I'll clean up and store all the drum brake parts. The original color I am warming up to.
The green interior...... If I change it I'll save everything as well.
For now I'll just focus on doing no harm.

Steve, that interior is pretty rare. I have one just like yours, but with a white vinyl top. See this thread for more info. Green Interior Thread

showing a Green/Green GS350....... thats my car! I got lucky because the car was in Rochester NY. My brother works in Rochester and was able to check it out before I bid.
Maybe I paid a lot by Texas or So. Cal standards but in this area rust free is KING. Numbers matching is nice as well.
It is a Fremont California car missing only the kick panels.
So glad I asked for some opinions. I am starting to appreciate what I have.

Steve, it sounds like you've got a great original car. My opinion: leave it stock and original. I know its been said, but if weren't a GS go for it, but there is something special about the GS. I own a green mist 67, so I'm partial to green, but I really like the lime green. This is just my humble opinion. Good luck with car. Enjoy.
