I have the TA 212 in my 71 Skylark. It likes to idle at 800 RPM. I still have to play around with it. I think I can go lower. It might be a timing issue. It has a stock coverter Th-350. It pulls hard above 2000 RPM. I have't had much experience with it yet as the motor only has about 300 miles on it. Hopefully if I can get my cooling issues squared away I'll chime back in on its street manners.

Hey Joe, are you running it in a 350 or a 455? I am hoping to get mine idle at 600.

Hey Joe, I don't have mine in quiet yet. Should be another day or two. I saw 350 in your signiture is why I asked about the engine size. Have you brought it up in the rpms? Or is it still too new? My KB118 would pull past 5500 but that is where I like to shift.

I realized they were the actual lobe numbers, just wondered which rocker he wanted. I'll just use 1.6 ratio.

OK Brian, here's the numbers I got with the cam specs above:

    With 108 degrees, 8.0 compression and 515/224 intake and 522/231 exhaust: 427 HP/466 TQ
    With 108 degrees, 9.0 compression and 515/224 intake and 522/231 exhaust: 455 HP/491 TQ
    With 110 degrees, 8.0 compression and 515/224 intake and 522/231 exhaust: 429 HP/468 TQ
    With 110 degrees, 9.0 compression and 515/224 intake and 522/231 exhaust: 457 HP/ 491 TQ

These numbers are with a dual plane intake, 800 cfm carb, headers, and big valve heads.

Just for kicks I punched that 110 degree cam into my engine with a dual plane but with 10.1 to 1 compression. :eek2: 482 HP and 513 TQ. I then quickly ran that through my DeskTop Dragstrip and found that it would, in theory, knock another tenth off of my quarter mile time.

What kind of idle quality would this cam have compared to my Poston 113A cam? That has a fair idle at around 800 to 850 in gear. If I could get a smoother idle and go .1 faster in the quarter, :TU: :beer :eek2: :Brow:  . I'll have to give you a call on this. Sounds like my winter project is growing a bit here.

I have used both cams on the street and kept the 212 . Much better low end pull for the street. The 118 comes in late and idles rough. As far as those 450hp desk top dyno results I think there a bit high. I use a B4B ,Holley 850 DP , light porting , Headers etc and I dont think the power is close to 450hp.I remember some old KB118 dyno pulls with similiar combo and they were under 400hp.

    Cam Card

Does anyone have a cam card from the TA 212. Mine is in the shop and I want to compare it to one from a poston stage 1 grind listed on ebay.

    Thanks, Jeff
