The car wouldn't start, it just turned over and only fired every tenth turn. We changed the plugs, distributor, coil wire, checked coil, and polished the rotor and points. Still wouldn't fire, and it got gas and sparks on the plugs. ???Then we put some starting gas down the carb and turned the key. IT WAS LOUD........   The mufflers are now temporarily fixed with scrap sheet metal and wire. It sounds like a real hot rod now, but on Friday I'll go to the yard and look for replacements. The problem was the plug wires, the spark jumped from the middle of the cable on to the block. I had tried to get them twice in the last few days, but it they were out of stock everywhere. I'm starting to think it's me that is causing all this BS with the car. I mean I'm the one trying to fix everything, and I end up sawing off axles, because I didn't check the diff fluid level, and now I've blown up my mufflers because I couldn't find the problem causing the car to not start. :(

    ZZzz.... pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

It's always the hard way, but it's the right way. Someday I will know the tricks in the book too..

Good god man! Those mufflers look toasted:laugh:

Can't you just go to your local drive-in Midas and have them put on new mufflers?

Bummer to see that happen...I can only imagine how loud that is.

You're missing a golden opprtunity here! Sell those "High Flow" mufflers to the ricer crowd for $250 a pop :Brow:

Looks like my my Riv's resonaters

Midas and local shops do a good job. I had some stock mufflers and resonaters put on, it sounded nice. :Brow: thumpa' thumpa' thumpa' thumpa'. It was louder than any of the "HI flow systems". Goodluck getting it fixed for less than an arm and a leg.

There wasn't much gas att all, there was probably alot of fule that had made it's way down there I guess, and when a spark lit the gases, the whole cocktail decided to exit through the sides of the mufflers. There were four people with their noses under the hood when it happened. I turned the key, and it was all kind of in slow motion after the bang. One good thing that came out of it is that the rough idle seems to be gone. I guess that problem was in the wires, but now I have to get the car warmed up before I can take off, I don't know if it's a lack of pressure that requires the engine to be heated up a bit, before it will run properly. On Friday I'm going to remove the radiator and compressor for the AC. I need a bit more wind on the engine radiator, and the compressor serves no purpose as it is in pretty bad shape.

    Thanks for the support :TU:

I had bought the whole system for 60$ a couple of months ago, so this will be my third set of mufflers in five months. The last ones got all dented up, and a pipe broke where it bends over the axle. Just a bolt that came lose and dropped the connection point in the middle, causing it to scrape in the ground. I shopped around a bit, and someone put the whole thing on and new chrome tips for 100$. I'll check back with him as soon as I've decided on the replacements. He said he could build me a whole system with flowmasters for 450$, but there's plenty of other things in line first.

    ROLMFAO!
I'm sorry but I find that funny. (yea, I've got a weird sence of humour lol)
I showed my dad the picture and he told me that he used to shut his brothers Lemans off while it was moving and let the gas build up, then start it back up, and he too blew the muffler up! He just put a new muffler on the car and gave it back. He didn't tell his brother untill after he sold that car
